JE Bennett Law
Founded in 2012 and based in Tunbridge Wells, Kent, JE Bennett Law provides legal support nationwide to clients in vulnerable circumstances. The firm specialises in Court of Protection matters, trusts for vulnerable clients, elderly client law, and expert witness services. It works directly with clients as professional deputies or advising lay deputies and collaborates extensively with public, business, and professional referrers, including other law firms. Following significant growth, the firm has restructured to support further development across its key practice areas, including a COP Personal Injury and Expert Witness division led by Managing Partner Jane Bennett, a COP Public and Panel Deputy division led by Senior Partner Ian Macara, and a Private Client division led by Senior Partner Richard Shearing.
JE Bennett Law has a team of approximately 40 staff, including eight partners, with specialists dedicated to providing efficient and compassionate services to clients in vulnerable circumstances. Founder and Managing Partner Jane Bennett has over 20 years of experience specialising in Court of Protection law, building a firm committed to empowering and supporting vulnerable clients. The firm is recognised in The Legal 500, with both the firm and Jane Bennett also ranked in Chambers.
The firm’s core practice areas include acting for clients who are limited in managing their financial or health/care needs due to personal trauma, brain or spinal injuries, or mental health issues, including matters arising from personal injury or medical negligence. JE Bennett Law advises on deprivation of liberty and health and welfare matters and works closely with family members and local authorities to protect vulnerable clients from financial abuse, neglect, or other forms of harm. The firm acts as professional deputy for over 300 clients and provides guidance to lay deputies and local authorities in complex or contentious cases.
The Expert Witness team, led by Jane Bennett, provides evidence in high-value personal injury litigation and criminal injuries compensation claims, acting for claimants, defendants, and large loss insurers. The firm also establishes and manages personal injury trusts, serving as professional trustee for mentally or physically vulnerable beneficiaries, particularly in cases involving spinal injuries.
JE Bennett Law offers a full range of services for elderly clients, including Lasting and Ordinary Powers of Attorney, professional attorneyships, wills and probate services, Court of Protection statutory will applications, discretionary and disabled wills, and professional executor, administrator, and trustee services.
