Astraea is an alternative business structure (ABS) established in 2021 with the aim of transforming the delivery of legal services and expert advocacy. Founded by leading commercial silk James Ramsden KC and chartered accountant and tax advisor Nina Stewart FCA, the firm has expanded rapidly with the addition of partners Rob Bedford, Oliver Mishcon and Piers Rake. Astraea combines the expertise of barristers, solicitors, private client and tax specialists, and accountants working together in-house, supported by a network of consultants, foreign lawyers, forensic investigators and intelligence analysts.

The firm undertakes a broad range of dispute resolution work including litigation, arbitration and mediation, with a strong focus on complex cross-border matters. Its practice covers commercial litigation, arbitration, international enforcement, jurisdictional disputes, and public and administrative law. The firm has represented high-net-worth individuals, family offices, multinational corporations, financial institutions, regulatory bodies, governments and state-owned entities.

Astraea also advises on regulatory and compliance issues, including sanctions, financial regulations, and anti-money laundering, and regularly acts for the Solicitors Regulation Authority and other professional bodies. Its forensic investigations and intelligence practice addresses issues involving bribery, fraud, cartel activity, sanctions breaches and money laundering. The firm further advises on reputation management and crisis response, fintech and digital assets, civil fraud, private client matters, and special situations.

Notable experience includes representing investors in enforcement of a US$500 million arbitration award against the Republic of Kazakhstan, advising on one of the most significant cryptocurrency cases (Tulip Trading Ltd v Bitcoin Association for BSV & others), and acting in international tracing and enforcement proceedings related to large-scale frauds including the 1MDB scandal.
