Vail Dispute Resolution is an independent disputes practice based in London, led by Tomas Vail. The practice offers arbitration expertise, extensive practical experience, and the efficiencies of an independent structure.

Tomas Vail is recognised as a leading arbitration practitioner with experience representing clients worldwide, particularly in Russia and the CIS, Eastern Europe, and Africa. His work has involved disputes conducted under LCIA, SCC, ICC, ICSID, and UNCITRAL rules, as well as related court litigation. He has significant experience in the petroleum, mining, and renewables industries, advising on high-value disputes between energy companies and states or state-owned entities.

His background includes advocacy in multi-billion-dollar disputes and settlement negotiations at the highest levels of government, acting for both states and investors. He has also handled complex cases in construction, telecommunications, financial services, commodities, consumer goods, and manufacturing sectors, including joint venture and post-M&A disputes.

Tomas Vail is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and is listed on the arbitrator databases of the LCIA, ICC, SCC, and SIAC. He has been appointed as arbitrator in over a dozen disputes, including serving as Sole Arbitrator in an energy matter involving a state entity under the SCC Rules.

He holds a Juris Doctor degree from the Washington College of Law, a bachelor’s degree in political science from Macalester College, and completed graduate studies in international arbitration at Université Paris X – Nanterre. He is a member of the New York Bar and a solicitor of England and Wales.
