SRA imposes new practice conditions on solicitor

SRA imposes new practising certificate conditions restricting solicitor’s practice

According to an SRA decision dated 28 April 2026 and published on 25 June 2026, Mr Iyaz’s practising certificate for the 2025/2026 practice year is subject to several conditions governing how he may practise as a solicitor.

Under the latest decision, Mr Iyaz must not be the sole manager or owner of any authorised body. He is also prohibited from acting as the sole signatory to any client or office account, from having sole responsibility for client or office accounts, and from having sole responsibility for authorising transfers from those accounts. In addition, he may not practise on his own account under Regulation 10.2 of the SRA Authorisation of Individuals Regulations. The SRA said the outcome was reached through its own regulatory decision-making process.

The latest restrictions follow an earlier control of practice decision made on 14 August 2025 and published on 12 September 2025. That decision placed interim conditions on Mr Iyaz’s practising certificate for the 2024/2025 practice year while regulatory matters remained ongoing.

Under the 2025 conditions, Mr Iyaz was prohibited from acting as a Compliance Officer for Legal Practice (COLP) or a Compliance Officer for Finance and Administration (COFA) for any authorised body. He was also barred from being a manager or owner of an authorised body.

The SRA stated at the time that the interim conditions were imposed under rule 3.2 of the SRA Regulatory and Disciplinary Procedure Rules. It said an authorised decision-maker may impose interim conditions on a solicitor’s practising certificate pending a final decision by either the SRA or the Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal where such conditions are considered necessary in the public interest or for the protection of the public.

The regulator has not, in the published decision, provided further details about the underlying matters that resulted in the conditions. The published outcome relates solely to restrictions placed on Mr Iyaz’s practising certificate and the terms under which he may continue to practise.
