Solicitors firm faces regulatory intervention following insolvency collapse

SRA appoints an intervention agent after the firm is placed into administration

The Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) has intervened in BLB Solicitors Limited after the firm entered administration. The intervention took effect on 1 May 2026 and was officially published by the regulator on 5 May 2026.

According to the SRA, the intervention followed the firm being placed into administration, which constitutes a relevant insolvency event under paragraph 32(1)(c) of Schedule 2 to the Administration of Justice Act 1985. BLB Solicitors operated as a recognised body with its registered office at Rodney House, 5 Roundstone Street, Trowbridge, Wiltshire.

As part of the intervention process, the SRA appointed Sean Joyce of Stephensons Solicitors LLP as the intervening agent. The firm is based at Wigan Investment Centre, Waterside Drive, Wigan. An SRA intervention allows the regulator to take possession of client files, papers and money to protect the interests of clients and the public when serious concerns arise regarding a legal practice.

The intervention follows reports that BLB Solicitors had ceased trading after a proposed sale of the business failed to proceed. Prior communications issued to clients stated that the anticipated transaction had been withdrawn at short notice, resulting in the closure of the practice.

The firm operated across several locations, including offices in Trowbridge, Bath, Bristol, Swindon, Almondsbury and Bradford-on-Avon. Clients affected by the closure had previously been advised to seek alternative legal representation while arrangements were made regarding the transfer of files and documentation.

The SRA has not released further details regarding the administration process or any ongoing investigations connected to the firm. Under intervention procedures, the appointed intervention agent is responsible for handling client files and assisting with the transfer or return of documents and monies where appropriate.

The regulator said the intervention decision was made following the insolvency event and in accordance with its statutory powers. BLB Solicitors’ intervention adds to a number of recent regulatory actions involving financially distressed legal practices as regulators continue to monitor risks affecting law firms and client protections.
