Global law giant A&O Shearman unveils 33 new partners across 14 countries

Firm strengthens global reach with partner promotions spanning 18 offices and key practices

A&O Shearman has elected 33 new partners, with promotions taking effect on 1 May 2026, marking a significant expansion of its global partnership across multiple jurisdictions and practice areas.

The newly promoted partners are based across 14 countries and 18 offices, underscoring the firm’s continued focus on strengthening its international footprint. The appointments span all major regions in which the firm operates, including continental Europe, the United Kingdom, the United States, Asia Pacific, the Middle East, and Africa.

Continental Europe accounts for the largest share of promotions, with 14 new partners. The United Kingdom follows with nine appointments, while four partners are based in the United States. The Asia Pacific region sees three promotions, alongside two in the Middle East and one in Africa.

The promotions cover a broad range of practice areas. Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A) records the highest number of elevations, reflecting ongoing demand for transactional expertise. Global Financial Markets and Antitrust also feature prominently among the new partner appointments. Additional promotions have been made across Debt Finance, Employment Litigation, Energy, Natural Resources and Infrastructure (ENRI), Financial Services Regulatory, Litigation and Investigations, Tax, and Real Estate.

Khalid Garousha, senior partner of the firm, said the appointments represent a key moment for the organisation. He stated that the new partners bring the expertise and judgement required to support clients facing complex cross-border challenges. He also noted that the individuals reflect the firm’s emphasis on client service, collaboration, and professional excellence.

The newly elected partners include lawyers based in major financial and commercial centres such as London, Paris, Frankfurt, New York, Dubai, and Tokyo. Among them are practitioners specialising in areas ranging from M&A and financial regulation to litigation and infrastructure.

The full list of promotions includes Mosaed AlAjeel in Riyadh, Kara Altman in Washington D.C., and James Ashcroft in London, alongside Gordon Bartlett, Josh Baxter, and Nicholas Gomes, also based in London. Other appointments include Jan-Hendrik Bode in Frankfurt, Robert Bucella in Silicon Valley, and Martin Chassany in Paris.

Further promotions include Jonathan Cho in New York, Francesca Croci and Chiara De Luca in Milan, and Alamanda Daud in Jakarta. Additional partners include Arthit Hemara in Bangkok, Harsha Kumar in Dubai, and Poppy Latham and Tim Monahan in London.

The cohort also features appointments across Brussels, Luxembourg, Amsterdam, Hamburg, Dallas, Casablanca, and Tokyo, reflecting the firm’s broad geographic coverage. One promotion, Tom Lindley in Tokyo, remains subject to approval in Japan.

The latest round of promotions highlights the firm’s continued investment in its global partnership structure and its commitment to maintaining capabilities across key legal markets.
