SRA intervenes into North East law firm following insolvency event

Firm closed as regulator steps in after decision dated 22 January 2026

The Solicitors Regulation Authority has intervened into Naughtons Solicitors LLP following the occurrence of a relevant insolvency event.

The firm, based at 3 Bridle Way, Houghton Le Spring, DH5 8NQ, was a recognised body regulated by the SRA under number 607608. The intervention decision was made on 22 January 2026, with the outcome published on 26 January 2026.

According to the SRA, the outcome of the regulatory process was the closure of the firm. The decision to intervene was taken directly by the SRA.

The stated reason for the intervention was that a relevant insolvency event had occurred in relation to the firm. The intervention was made under paragraph 32(1)(c) of Schedule 2 to the Administration of Justice Act 1985, as amended.

An intervention agent has been appointed to act on behalf of the SRA. John Owen of Gordons LLP, based at 1 New Augustus Street, Bradford, BD1 5LL, has been designated as the intervening agent.

No further details were provided by the SRA in relation to the circumstances of the insolvency event or the firm’s client matters.

The intervention took effect on 22 January 2026.
