London law firm closed following SRA regulatory intervention

SRA closes law firm under statutory intervention powers aimed at safeguarding client interests

The Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) has closed London-based law firm Belshaw & Curtin Ltd following a regulatory intervention aimed at protecting clients and former clients of the practice.

The intervention took effect on 6 May 2026, according to a decision notice published by the regulator on 8 May 2026.

Belshaw & Curtin Ltd operated from Unit 207, Vox Studios, 1-45 Durham Street, London SE11 5JH. The practice was recognised by the SRA under firm number 637844.

In its published notice, the SRA confirmed that the outcome was reached through an SRA decision and recorded the action as a closure and intervention.

The regulator stated that it was “necessary to intervene to protect the interests of clients or former clients of Belshaw & Curtin Ltd”. The decision was made under paragraph 32(1)(e) of Schedule 2 to the Administration of Justice Act 1985, as amended.

No further details about the circumstances behind the intervention were disclosed in the notice.

The SRA has appointed Chris Evans of Lester Aldridge LLP as the intervening agent. Lester Aldridge LLP is based at Russell House, Oxford Road, Bournemouth, BH8 8EX.

People seeking information relating to the intervention have been advised to contact the intervening agent directly. Enquiries can be made by telephone on 01202 786341 or by email at interventions@la-law.com.

An SRA intervention is one of the regulator’s strongest enforcement measures and can result in the immediate closure of a law firm. The process allows the regulator to take control of client files and money held by the practice in order to safeguard the interests of clients and former clients.

The notice published by the SRA did not mention any separate disciplinary allegations or proceedings involving individuals connected to the firm.
