Land Registry acts to safeguard applications filed by PM Law

Land Registry to contact clients after PM Law’s sudden closure

HM Land Registry has confirmed it is taking steps to support customers whose conveyancing applications were submitted by PM Law and its affiliates, following the firm’s sudden closure on 2 February 2026.

The group, which handled conveyancing transactions for home buyers and sellers, ceased trading without warning. HM Land Registry said it recognises the “unusual and unfortunate circumstances” facing affected customers and is now reviewing all applications lodged by the firm.

Officials are identifying every application submitted by PM Law Group and assessing its current status. Where possible, completed applications will be progressed and finalised. In cases where further information is required, the Land Registry will write directly to customers, provided contact details are available.

Ordinarily, correspondence about registration applications would be sent to a customer’s legal representative. However, where customers do not appear to have appointed new solicitors, HM Land Registry said it will attempt to contact them directly. It cautioned that it cannot guarantee reaching everyone, due to the limited and variable contact details supplied by the closed firm, but stated it will make every effort to do so.

The Land Registry has strongly advised affected customers to appoint new legal representation as soon as possible, given the complexity of land registration procedures. Those seeking a new solicitor are directed to the Law Society’s online “Find a Solicitor” service.

Customers can also apply to reclaim money held by PM Law and its affiliates through the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA), which has intervened in the firm. Further information for clients, employees and creditors is available from the SRA.

HM Land Registry clarified that applications submitted via its online portal can only be accessed by the Land Registry itself. Documents uploaded by PM Law through the portal cannot be accessed by the appointed intervention agent, Gordons LLP, or any other representative.

For applications already completed, registration documents will be sent directly to customers where contact details are held. If no details are available, documents will be sent to the appointed intervention agent to forward on.

Customers unsure whether their application was lodged can contact HM Land Registry using its online contact form, providing either the property address or title number to confirm whether an application is on file.

The Land Registry emphasised that where additional information is required to progress an application, it will write to the customer explaining what is needed. Given the technical nature of land registration requirements, customers are encouraged to seek advice from a newly appointed solicitor if they are uncertain how to proceed.
