NBB Law acquires 150-year-old Waldrons, strengthening national reach

NBB Law’s acquisition of Waldrons merges heritage with modern ambition across England

NBB Law has completed the acquisition of Waldrons Solicitors in a move that strengthens its position as one of the UK’s leading mid-market legal practices. The deal unites a modern, expanding firm with one of England’s most established names in law, blending heritage and innovation to create a national practice serving clients across multiple sectors.

The acquisition brings together NBB Law, which operates from offices in Birmingham and London, with Waldrons Solicitors, a respected firm whose history dates back to 1867. For more than a century and a half, Waldrons has been synonymous with professionalism, integrity, and long-standing service to clients and communities throughout the Midlands.

The combined practice will employ more than 130 people, including 70 lawyers, across eight offices nationwide. The merged firm reports a combined annual income of £8.5 million. NBB Law said the transaction reflects its strategy to build a truly national legal business capable of meeting the complex needs of individuals, companies, and institutions throughout the UK.

NBB Law’s Managing Director, Rob Bhol, and Senior Partner, Paul Nicholls, described the acquisition as a defining moment in the firm’s evolution. In a joint statement, they said the union marks a step forward in delivering legal services that reflect the highest professional standards. “The acquisition of Waldrons Solicitors not only brings together two firms with highly complementary strengths,” they said, “but also reinforces our shared commitment to serving local communities with agility, collaboration, and excellence.”

They added that the merger carries a sense of stewardship and continuity. “Taking on the custodianship of a firm established in 1867 is both a privilege and a responsibility. We deeply respect the generations of professionals whose hard work and integrity built this legacy. Our commitment is to preserve what makes the firm distinctive, to honour the trust of its clients, and to ensure that its reputation for excellence continues to grow long into the future.”

Waldrons’ Managing Director, Joseph Norton, said the merger represents both progress and continuity for clients and staff. “The team at Waldrons are proud of what we’ve built over many decades,” he said. “Joining forces with NBB Law opens new horizons for our clients and our people. This new chapter honours the legacy of our late Managing Director, John Roberts, whose visionary leadership for over 30 years shaped the foundation of the firm.”

Norton added that the transition will bring stability and opportunity while maintaining familiarity for existing clients. “As our brand and business continue to evolve, the heritage and values of both firms will remain central to everything we do. The people our clients know and trust will stay in place, ensuring continuity of service while expanding the resources available to them.”

The acquisition reflects an ongoing trend of consolidation in the UK legal sector. Across the industry, firms are merging to strengthen their competitive position, invest in technology, and expand their reach. Analysts say the deal demonstrates how established firms are adapting to meet the growing expectations of clients who increasingly require both local knowledge and national capability.

With this latest acquisition, NBB Law consolidates its reputation as a leading force among mid-sized law firms. By integrating Waldrons’ deep-rooted heritage with its own modern growth strategy, the firm aims to deliver the balance of tradition and innovation that defines the evolving UK legal landscape.
