MOJ seeks applicants to help shape LawtechUK’s third phase from November 2026.
LawtechUK recruitment has opened for individuals interested in joining the Ministry of Justice’s Advisory Board or becoming a LawtechUK Ambassador as the programme prepares for its third phase.
The Ministry of Justice (MOJ) is inviting expressions of interest from people with expertise across legal services, lawtech, technology, academia, access to justice and innovation. The new appointments will support the programme’s next phase, which is due to run from November 2026 to March 2029.
LawtechUK is the MOJ’s programme supporting innovation across the legal services sector. According to the department, the programme has operated since 2019 and has supported the development and adoption of legal technology across England and Wales.
The programme’s next phase will involve refreshed advisory arrangements. The MOJ said these arrangements are intended to ensure that government and the successful grant recipient continue to benefit from independent expertise, constructive challenge and practical advice.
Two roles available
The recruitment exercise covers two different opportunities: membership of the LawtechUK Advisory Board and participation in the LawtechUK Ambassador network.
The Advisory Board will provide strategic oversight and independent advice on delivery of the LawtechUK programme. Board members will advise MOJ officials responsible for the programme and, where appropriate, the successful LawtechUK grant recipient.
The Board is expected to provide constructive challenge and practical advice on whether the programme is delivering impact and value for money, remains aligned with government priorities, responds to emerging opportunities in the legal innovation ecosystem and engages effectively with the sector.
The Ambassador role is different. Ambassadors will promote LawtechUK through their professional networks, support stakeholder engagement, mentor participants where appropriate and contribute to events, workshops and other programme activities.
Unlike Advisory Board members, Ambassadors will not have a formal governance or advisory role in programme delivery. The MOJ describes the Ambassador network as a flexible opportunity for individuals to contribute their expertise.
Who can apply?
The MOJ is inviting applications from people working across legal services, lawtech businesses, technology companies, the charitable and access-to-justice sector, academia, the judiciary, business and investment, and the wider legal innovation ecosystem.
The department is particularly encouraging applications from people with diverse backgrounds, experiences and perspectives.
For the Advisory Board, the areas of expertise sought include lawtech founder or scale-up leadership, legal services innovation, SME legal services, academic research, and access to justice and legal innovation.
The MOJ said it is seeking the strongest overall combination of expertise rather than appointing one individual to each profile.
Both positions are voluntary and unremunerated. Individuals appointed to either role will act in a personal capacity rather than as representatives of their organisations.
Appointments are intended to last for the duration of the programme, from November 2026 to March 2029. The MOJ has also reserved the right to end an appointment earlier where circumstances change, including where an individual can no longer continue in the role or develops a conflict of interest that cannot be appropriately managed.
Application process
Applicants for the Advisory Board must submit a CV of no more than two sides of A4, a statement of suitability of up to 750 words explaining how they meet the essential criteria and relevant membership profiles, and a completed conflicts of interest declaration.
Applicants can also state whether they wish to be considered for an Ambassador role if they are not appointed to the Advisory Board. Those who make that request do not need to submit a separate Ambassador statement.
Applicants for the Ambassador network must provide a CV of no more than two sides of A4, a statement of up to 250 words explaining how they could contribute to the programme, and a completed conflicts of interest declaration.
Applications must be submitted to the Ministry of Justice by 5pm on Monday 5 October 2026. The selection process will be conducted through an open and transparent competition, with applications assessed against the published essential criteria and broad membership profiles.
Interviews, if required, are expected to take place in mid-October. Applicants are expected to be notified of the outcome during the week beginning 26 October, with the LawtechUK Advisory Board and Ambassador appointments expected to be announced during the week beginning 2 November 2026.
