Rwk Goodman will acquire HMG Law on 31 January 2026, expanding its Thames Valley presence
RWK Goodman has confirmed it will acquire HMG Law, Oxfordshire’s oldest law firm, in a move that will expand its capacity and expertise across the wider Thames Valley region.
The acquisition is due to complete on 31 January 2026. RWK Goodman said the deal will strengthen its offering by bringing in HMG Law’s established private and family law expertise, while providing clients with access to a broader range of private and commercial legal services.
HMG Law operates from offices in Oxford and Bicester. RWK Goodman confirmed that staff from both locations will integrate with its Oxford office at Minns Business Park from February. The firm said client service will remain unaffected during the merger process.
Paul Daniels, managing partner of RWK Goodman, said the firm was pleased to welcome HMG Law and described the acquisition as a step towards expanding RWK Goodman’s capabilities and prominence in the Thames Valley. He said the deal supports the firm’s strategic ambition to grow sustainably and at speed by partnering with firms aligned to its values and focus on client quality.
Gary Baker, senior partner at HMG Law, said the firm’s reputation in Oxford and the Thames Valley made it a strong fit with RWK Goodman’s approach to building a sustainable business for current and future private and business clients in the region. He said he looked forward to delivering a seamless combination of the two businesses in the weeks and months ahead.
RWK Goodman said the acquisition forms part of its wider strategy to maintain a rapid period of growth and continue strengthening its market-leading expertise within the Thames Valley and nationally. The firm has stated an ambition to reach a turnover of £100 million by 2030 and said it is currently on course to meet that target.
The firm also reported that it has recorded more than 26 percent growth across the last two financial years.
Chris Wilson, partner and head of RWK Goodman’s private client team in Oxford, said the firms were a strong cultural fit. He said his own experience working at HMG Law for more than a decade gave him confidence that the combination would bring in a regionally leading team with strong expertise and connections, complementing RWK Goodman’s existing practice.
Wilson said the firm will focus on ensuring continuity for clients transitioning as part of the acquisition, while also enabling them to access a broader and deeper level of legal support across the Thames Valley. He added that the combined teams will be positioned to handle complex and intricate matters.
RWK Goodman said the integration of the two firms will take place from February, following completion at the end of January, with services continuing throughout the transition.
