I. Stephanie Boyce appointed chair-elect of the Solicitors’ Charity, taking office in March

Former Law Society president I. Stephanie Boyce has been appointed as a trustee and chair-elect of The Solicitors’ Charity. She will take over as chair in March 2026, succeeding current chair Shams Rahman.

The Solicitors’ Charity, founded in 1858, provides vital support to solicitors facing challenges ranging from financial hardship to health issues and work-related stress. The charity is funded through donations from trusts, foundations, law societies, firms, individuals, and unclaimed client balances.

Nick Gallagher, chief executive of The Solicitors’ Charity, expressed confidence in Boyce’s appointment, describing her as a brilliant advocate for the charity’s work. He noted her ability to represent the profession, particularly in advocating for the charity’s mission to support solicitors during difficult times. Gallagher also acknowledged the leadership of Shams Rahman, who has successfully guided the charity through a strategic shift towards a focus on wellbeing.

Boyce, who will officially assume the role in March, shared her enthusiasm about the new position. She thanked Rahman for his leadership and the charity’s focus on delivering essential wellbeing support to solicitors and their families. Boyce highlighted her career, grounded in law, leadership, and legacy, and expressed a commitment to championing the profession’s well-being. She aims to raise awareness of The Solicitors’ Charity’s vital role and garner more support from businesses, institutions, firms, suppliers, and individuals.

Boyce said, “Throughout my career, I have been privileged to use my voice to highlight the issues that matter to our profession. I look forward to bringing that same commitment to the charity and strengthening the support network for solicitors in need.”

As chair-elect, Boyce will work closely with the charity to deepen its impact on the profession’s wellbeing, continuing the transition Rahman initiated, focusing on both the financial and emotional support of solicitors.
