SRA restricts solicitor’s practice certificate in public interest move

Solicitor prohibited from management and compliance roles under SRA conditions

The Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) has imposed practising certificate conditions on solicitor Alum Zeb Khan Khattak, restricting his ability to hold senior management and compliance roles within regulated legal practices.

According to a regulatory notice published by the Solicitors Regulation Authority on 12 May 2026, the conditions were imposed on Mr Khan’s 2025/2026 practising certificate following an SRA decision dated 14 April 2026.

At the time of the matters giving rise to the regulatory outcome, Mr Khan practised at Caffrey & Company Incorporating Khattak-Pasha & Co Ltd in Birmingham. The firm is located at 57 Yardley Road, Acocks Green, Birmingham.

At the date of publication, the SRA recorded Mr Khan as practising at Stuart Miller Solicitors Limited in Wood Green, London.

Under the conditions imposed by the regulator, Mr Khan is prohibited from acting as a manager or owner of any authorised body or authorised non-SRA firm.

The SRA also barred him from acting as a compliance officer for legal practice (COLP) or compliance officer for finance and administration (COFA) for any authorised body.

In addition, the conditions prevent Mr Khan from practising on his own account under Regulation 10.2(a) or (b) of the SRA Authorisation of Individuals Regulations.

The SRA said the conditions were imposed in the public interest and were considered “reasonable and proportionate” having regard to the regulatory objectives and principles governing regulatory activity under the Legal Services Act 2007.

The regulator did not publish further details about the underlying circumstances leading to the decision.

Control of practice conditions are regulatory restrictions that allow solicitors to continue practising while limiting their ability to hold certain positions of responsibility within law firms.
