Senior solicitor approved to work under tight SRA restrictions

Alistair Davies is permitted to work at Veritas under strict SRA conditions

The Solicitors Regulation Authority has granted Alistair Davies permission to be employed at Veritas Solicitors LLP as a senior solicitor, subject to detailed control of practice conditions.

The decision was made on 16 January 2026 and published on 16 February 2026. The outcome was reached by the SRA decision and imposes a condition on Mr Davies’ employment.

Under the terms of the approval, Mr Davies will operate in a support capacity only. His role will be limited to providing internal technical advice and peer-level support. He will not manage a caseload and will not hold any compliance responsibilities. He is also prohibited from acting as a decision maker in compliance, governance or procedural matters.

His involvement in complaint handling will be restricted to providing technical input and must be undertaken under supervision.

Mr Davies’s work will be directly supervised by Joseph Stewart Doyle, SRA number 639449. In his absence, supervision will be jointly undertaken by Kashif Rather, SRA number 585289, and Safyian Rafiq, the firm’s operations manager. The supervision must be continuous and documented.

He is not permitted to supervise staff or confirm regulatory adherence. Any support he provides to junior staff must be recorded and subject to regular review. Oversight arrangements will include supervision of all advice given and participation in scheduled audits.

His work will be reviewed by an SRA approved role holder. Monthly audits will be conducted under the firm’s Training and Competency Scheme by Mr Stewart Doyle. Additional ad hoc audits will be carried out by the firm’s internal audit team. These audits will assess both the technical quality of his work and his professional conduct.

The SRA must be informed immediately of any proposed variation in Mr Davies’s duties or supervision arrangements. No variation may take effect without the regulator’s prior permission.

The approval will lapse if Mr Davies leaves the firm. Any intended return to Veritas Solicitors LLP would require a new application. The approval and its attached conditions remain subject to review at the SRA’s absolute discretion.

The regulator stated that the conditions are necessary in the public interest. It said they are reasonable and proportionate, having regard to regulation 7 of the SRA Authorisation of Individuals Regulations and the regulatory objectives and principles set out in section 28 of the Legal Services Act 2007.
