The Solicitors Regulation Authority has intervened to close a family law firm in Norwich
The Solicitors Regulation Authority has intervened in a Norwich-based law firm, resulting in its immediate closure.
Ronaldsons Family Law Ltd, based at 45 Dereham Road, Norwich, was subject to an intervention decision on 28 January 2026, according to a notice published on 30 January. The firm was a recognised body regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority.
The intervention means the firm has been closed and the SRA has taken control of client files and other relevant material. The decision was taken directly by the regulator and came into effect on the same day as the outcome date, 28 January 2026.
According to the SRA, the intervention was necessary to protect the interests of current or former clients. The regulator also cited the need to safeguard the interests of beneficiaries of any trust where the firm acted, or where a manager or employee of the firm acted as trustee in that capacity.
The legal basis for the intervention is paragraph 32(1)(e) of Schedule 2 to the Administration of Justice Act 1985. This provision allows the SRA to step in where it considers such action necessary to protect client or beneficiary interests.
No further details were provided by the regulator regarding the specific circumstances that led to the intervention, and the published notice does not include information about the firm’s management, finances, or any alleged misconduct. The SRA has not indicated whether any further regulatory or disciplinary action is being considered at this stage.
An intervening agent has been appointed to manage the practical consequences of the closure. Claire Burrows of Shakespeare Martineau LLP has been instructed to act as the SRA’s agent. She will oversee the handling and return of client files, deeds, and any remaining client money held by the firm.
The intervening agent is operating through SHMA SRA Interventions and will act as the primary point of contact for affected clients and other interested parties. Clients of Ronaldsons Family Law Ltd are expected to be contacted directly with information about how to recover their files and what steps they may need to take to continue their legal matters with a new solicitor.
An intervention is one of the most serious regulatory actions available to the SRA and results in a firm being unable to continue trading. The regulator has reiterated that such steps are taken only where it considers them necessary to protect the public and uphold confidence in the legal profession.
