Solicitor barred from solo practice and compliance roles by regulator

SRA imposes strict conditions on a London solicitor’s practising certificate

The Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) has imposed conditions on the practising certificate of Adeel Saghir, limiting how he may practise during the 2025/2026 practising year.

The decision, dated 15 January 2026 and published on 19 February 2026, was reached by SRA decision under its regulatory powers.

At the time of the matters giving rise to the outcome, Mr Saghir was practising at Aman Solicitors Advocates (London) Ltd, based at SPACES, 83–85 Baker Street, Marylebone, London, W1U 6AG. The firm is recorded under Firm ID 463069.

According to the published decision notice, Mr Saghir’s practising certificate for 2025/2026 is subject to three conditions.

First, he may act as a solicitor only as an employee, and only where that employment has first been approved by the SRA. This restriction prevents him from practising independently or entering employment without prior regulatory consent.

Second, Mr Saghir may not act as a compliance officer for legal practice (COLP) or as a compliance officer for finance and administration (COFA) for any authorised body. These roles carry responsibility for ensuring regulatory compliance within a firm.

Third, he is prohibited from practising on his own account under regulation 10.2 of the SRA Authorisation of Individuals Regulations. That provision governs the circumstances in which an individual solicitor may operate as a sole practitioner.

The notice specifies that, in these conditions, the defined terms carry the meanings set out in the SRA Glossary.

The outcome is formally recorded as a “Condition” under the category “Control of practice”. No further details are provided in the published notice about the underlying circumstances leading to the decision.

The SRA regulates solicitors and law firms in England and Wales. Where it considers regulatory action necessary, it may impose practising certificate conditions to restrict the way in which a solicitor operates, including limiting employment arrangements or barring certain compliance functions.

The published decision confirms that the conditions apply to the 2025/2026 practising year and took effect from 15 January 2026.
