Curtis, Mallet-Prevost, Colt & Mosle LLP, founded in 1830, was among the first US law firms to establish a truly international practice. The firm advises multinational companies, financial institutions, governments, state-owned entities, privately held businesses, entrepreneurs and high-net-worth individuals on complex cross-border transactions and disputes. With offices in the United States, Europe, Latin America, the Middle East, and Central and East Asia, Curtis maintains a presence in key global business centres.

Established in 1973, the Paris office focuses on international arbitration as well as French and international corporate and finance matters. The office works closely with the firm’s global network of offices and is staffed by multilingual lawyers, many qualified in both Paris and New York and holding business degrees in addition to law degrees.

The Paris arbitration team has significant experience under ICSID, ICC, UNCITRAL and other arbitration rules. Partners Peter Wolrich and Geoffroy Lyonnet are recognised leaders in the field; Wolrich served for 12 years as chairman of the ICC Commission on Arbitration and was principal draftsman of the ICC’s arbitration guide for in-house counsel, while Lyonnet co-chairs the ICC Task Force on the ICC Guide to National Procedures for Recognition and Enforcement of Awards under the New York Convention. The team has represented states including Turkmenistan, Venezuela, Kazakhstan, Russia, Macedonia and Cameroon, and has achieved notable results for commercial clients, such as securing substantial counterclaims for French-listed Arkema in post-M&A and construction disputes.

The Paris corporate group, led by Remy Lerner, advises on cross-border investments, projects, M&A and restructurings, particularly in mining and energy sectors across Africa, Europe and the US. It has acted for several African states on acquisitions and disposals of mining and oil and gas assets, exploration and production contracts, and energy infrastructure projects, including work for the Republic of Gabon. The group also supports US companies and investment funds on European investments, drawing on Curtis’ cross-office capabilities.

The tax group, led by Marco Blanco, provides expertise on complex cross-border tax issues, including advising Central Asian and African states on international tax matters. The office also has an established practice in oil and gas state representation, particularly in West and Central Africa’s natural gas sector, involving Lerner, Blanco and Lyonnet.

The Paris office forms part of Curtis, Mallet-Prevost, Colt & Mosle LLP, a New York limited liability partnership.
