MoJ confirms new and returning non-executive directors for key board roles

The Ministry of Justice has confirmed the appointment and reappointment of two Non-Executive Directors to its Departmental Board, strengthening oversight and governance within the department.

Jennifer Rademaker has been reappointed for a second three-year term as Non-Executive Director, beginning on 21 August 2026. Gurpreet Dehal has been newly appointed to the Board and will also serve as Chair of the Audit and Risk Assurance Committee (ARAC) for a three-year term starting on 1 April 2026.

Non-Executive Directors play a central role in supporting the leadership of the Ministry of Justice. They provide independent advice and guidance to ministers and senior officials, contribute to strategic decision-making, and help monitor the department’s performance and progress.

As Chair of the ARAC, Gurpreet Dehal will take on responsibility for advising the Board and the department’s Accounting Officer on matters relating to financial accountability, risk management, internal controls, and governance. The role also involves oversight of assurance processes and an understanding of the department’s key risks and operational priorities.

Jennifer Rademaker joined the Ministry of Justice Board in August 2023. She brings more than 35 years of experience in payments technology and financial services, with a career that has included leadership roles in product development, strategy, and technology delivery. She spent two decades at Mastercard, working across global and regional positions before retiring in 2024. Her experience includes managing large-scale technology transformations and supporting organisational change.

In addition to her role at the Ministry of Justice, she serves as chair of the board of trustees at Fine Cell Work and as a Non-Executive Director at Fair4All Finance. She holds degrees in statistics from Lehigh University and Iowa State University.

Gurpreet Dehal currently serves as Chair and Pro Chancellor at the University of Derby and is a member of the Governing Council at the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors. Since 2014, he has held a range of non-executive and advisory roles across the public sector.

His previous experience includes positions within the Ministry of Defence, where he served as a board member and chaired the Audit and Risk Assurance Committee for the Defence Infrastructure Organisation. He has also been a board member at the Office for Students, the regulator for higher education in England.

Earlier in his career, he worked in financial services, specialising in risk management and leading global operations within trading and lending businesses.

The appointments form part of the Ministry of Justice’s ongoing efforts to maintain strong governance, accountability, and strategic oversight across its operations.
