Property partner trek’s 121 miles after brother’s suicide, raising mental health funds

Leeds solicitor walks 121 miles across five days in memory of his brother to raise funds for ANDYSMANCLUB

Navjit Singh Degun, a commercial property partner at Leeds‑based Levi Solicitors, completed a gruelling 121‑mile charity walk from Newcastle to Leeds in early July 2025. The five‑day trek, undertaken by 75 walkers, aimed to raise awareness and funds for ANDYSMANCLUB, a free UK charity dedicated to preventing male suicide.

The journey began in Newcastle and concluded at Elland Road, the home ground of Leeds United. It was organised in tribute to the late footballer Gary Speed and sought to spark open conversations around men’s mental health.

For Navjit, the walk held profound personal significance. He lost his younger brother to suicide in 2021 and had experienced his own struggle with depression. He says he took on the challenge in his brother’s memory and to help others facing similar battles.

“It was one of the toughest things I’ve ever done, both physically and mentally,” he reflected. “Walking 121 miles over five days took everything out of us, but the camaraderie and the cause kept us going. Crossing the finish line and seeing my family really brought home why we were doing this.”

He praised the support team and fellow walkers for their encouragement, adding that despite painful blisters and difficult terrain, he felt part of a “big family” on the journey. The evenings offered time to decompress and connect.

At the finish in Leeds, walkers were greeted with refreshments, courtesy of Leeds United. For Navjit, the reunion with his wife and daughter marked an emotional end to a demanding week. “I missed them so much, and seeing them again reminded me exactly why this matters,” he said.

Levi Solicitors has expressed pride in Navjit’s efforts, noting that the firm recently celebrated its 90th anniversary and continues to promote open conversations about mental health among staff and beyond.

To date, the walkers have raised nearly £60,000. Navjit alone has garnered over £3,000 in donations from colleagues, friends and family. His fundraising page remains open for further contributions.

Navjit joined Levi Solicitors as a qualified solicitor in September 2016 and was promoted to partner in 2024. Based in Leeds city centre, he specialises in property law and is fluent in Punjabi, Hindi and Urdu.

His charity walk stands out not just for its physical and emotional demands, but also for its drive to remove stigma around men’s mental health and encourage open dialogue. Navjit hopes the fundraiser will inspire others to reach out for help, and pay tribute to his brother’s memory in a lasting way.
