Carter Perry Bailey LLP (CPB) is a boutique law firm specialising in insurance and reinsurance, recognised in both the UK and international markets. Established in 2009, the firm advises on reinsurance, insurance claims and coverage, insurance defence, commercial and regulatory matters, as well as transactional work. Its clients include UK and international insurers and reinsurers, Lloyd’s syndicates, brokers, agents, run-off managers, and other participants in insurance and reinsurance transactions and disputes. The firm also represents clients in international commercial disputes, including arbitration, as well as in trust and fiduciary disputes.

The partners of CPB bring extensive experience from large City law firms and have established the practice to provide high-quality, specialist services in a boutique setting. Much of the firm’s work has an international dimension, supported by its role as the exclusive UK member of Insuralex, a global network of insurance and reinsurance law specialists covering more than 50 jurisdictions. CPB is also active in several international legal organisations, including the International Association of Defense Counsel, the Federation of Defense and Corporate Counsel, the British Institute of International and Comparative Law, and the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. Its lawyers are members of a wide range of professional associations, such as the Association of Contentious Trust & Probate Solicitors, the Institute of Art & Law, the British Insurance Law Association, and the Association Internationale de Droit des Assurances.

The firm advises on insurance and reinsurance disputes, including complex international litigation and arbitration. Its reinsurance expertise covers proportional and non-proportional risks, both facultative and treaty, while its insurance coverage work spans multiple classes of business, including property and casualty, professional indemnity, directors’ and officers’ liability, banking, cyber, business interruption, fine art and specie, marine, aviation, contingency, employers’ liability, public liability, and life and health. Insurance defence instructions include professional and financial risks, public liability, industrial injury, and fine art.

CPB also advises on professional and financial liability matters, representing a wide range of professionals, institutions, and advisers, including solicitors, barristers, brokers, property agents, surveyors, valuers, accountants, directors and officers, banks, financial advisers, insurance professionals, construction professionals, trustees, executors, dentists, galleries, and auction houses.

The firm’s non-contentious insurance and reinsurance practice includes advising on the establishment of brokers and insurers in the UK, drafting insurance and reinsurance documentation (including ART/ILS-related), agency agreements, FSMA 2000 Part VII transfers of business, run-off issues, regulatory advice, and transactional matters such as acquisitions of companies, brokers, and portfolios. CPB also supports corporate law firms on the insurance aspects of major transactions.

In addition, the firm has a strong practice in trust and fiduciary disputes, including matters involving family members, trustees, beneficiaries, and advisers, often with international and high-value elements. Its expertise includes issues of mental capacity, trust investments, and administration of international trust assets. CPB also represents domestic and international corporations in commercial arbitration and litigation.
