Free tool Buntool automates indexing and pagination of electronic bundles to reduce time spent preparing court documents
A City solicitor has developed a free online tool aimed at tackling one of litigation’s more time-consuming chores preparing court bundles.
The tool, Buntool, developed by Tristan Sherliker of Bird & Bird, creates court-compliant PDF legal bundles.
It is designed to automate the process of creating indexed and paginated electronic bundles, something many litigators still spend hours assembling manually.
While electronic bundles have become the norm since the shift to digital working in the courts, the process of putting them together has remained labour-intensive, particularly in larger cases with multiple documents and versions.
Buntool allows users to upload documents and automatically generate a structured, court-ready bundle, complete with pagination and indexing.
The tool was developed out of practical experience, with the aim of removing repetitive administrative work and freeing up time for fee-earning tasks.
Its free availability is likely to be particularly attractive to smaller firms and sole practitioners, who may not have access to more sophisticated and often costly bundle preparation software.
As courts continue to expect consistent formatting and presentation of electronic bundles, tools like this could help reduce errors as well as save time, especially where deadlines are tight.
The launch reflects a wider trend of lawyers building their own solutions to everyday problems in practice, rather than relying solely on traditional legal tech providers.
For many litigators, the appeal will be simple: anything that cuts down the time spent on bundles is likely to gain traction.
