Firm promotes £29.99 claims package offering support without legal advice as FCA scrutiny grows

A Law firm has launched a fixed fee service priced at £29.99 to help car finance customers pursue compensation while avoiding the provision of legal advice. Heirloom Fair Legal said its DIY Plus Support package is designed to assess eligibility and offer administrative assistance, stopping short of representing claimants or advising on legal issues.

The firm said the service will allow consumers to explore potential claims without the cost of full representation. Those who want representation can still instruct the firm on a no-win no-fee basis, under which up to 25 percent of any settlement obtained through the Financial Conduct Authority scheme may be deducted. In addition, Heirloom Fair Legal has made available a free self-help toolkit that includes templates and guidance to help consumers prepare and submit claims themselves.

The launch comes amid increased competition among firms seeking motor finance clients following the Supreme Court decision earlier in the year. Several firms that heavily advertised after that ruling have confirmed they intend to remain active in the sector, even though the regulator has told consumers through radio and online campaigns that they do not need lawyers if they wish to retain all their compensation.

Beth Hirshfeld, co-founder of Heirloom Fair Legal, said there is still demand for services that offer clear pricing and proportional support. She noted that many consumers prefer to have some level of professional assistance, particularly those who are vulnerable or uncertain about the process. She said the firm’s model aims to balance affordability with accessible support while allowing claimants to understand their options.

Hirshfeld added that the firm’s tiered pricing structure directly addresses concerns raised by the regulator about representatives charging disproportionate fees. She said that by giving consumers a choice between free tools, low cost support and full representation, the firm intends to ensure transparency and maintain public trust.

Heirloom Fair Legal was established in 2023 and specialises in small, fast track and multi track litigation involving consumer and small business protection programmes. The firm said its new model reflects growing interest from motorists following the announcement of an industry-wide compensation scheme proposed by the Financial Conduct Authority.

The regulator issued the consultation last month, stating that a centralised scheme is the most efficient way to deal with the liabilities owed to motor finance customers who were treated unfairly between 2007 and 2024. After initial feedback raised questions about compensatory interest and fraud prevention, the consultation deadline was extended until 17.00 on 12 December. Final rules are expected in either February or March of next year.

The firm said its approach is intended to operate within the regulator’s framework while offering consumers the choice of pursuing claims independently or with limited paid support. It added that the new service is aimed at helping those who may lack confidence in navigating the scheme alone but still want to avoid significant deductions from any award they may receive.
