Ex-MP faces court after charges over Class A and Class B drugs

Former MP charged with four drug offences following police investigation at Surrey address

A former Member of Parliament has been charged with multiple drug offences following an investigation by police and prosecutors.

Crispin Blunt, 65, has been charged with four offences, including one count of possessing a Class A controlled drug and three counts of possessing Class B controlled drugs. The charges were authorised by the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS).

Malcolm McHaffie, Head of the CPS Special Crime Division, confirmed the decision to bring charges, stating that prosecutors had determined there was sufficient evidence and that pursuing the case is in the public interest.

The charges follow police attendance at Mr Blunt’s home address in Horley, Surrey, on 25 October 2023. The visit was initially connected to a separate matter, according to the CPS.

The Class A charge relates to methylamphetamine. The three Class B charges relate to GBL, cannabis, and amphetamine.

The CPS said it had worked closely with Surrey Police throughout the investigation. Prosecutors reviewed the evidence gathered before deciding to proceed with criminal charges.

Mr Blunt, who previously served as the Member of Parliament for Reigate, is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, 25 March 2026.

The CPS emphasised that criminal proceedings are now active and reminded the public of the importance of ensuring a fair trial. It stated that no reporting, commentary or online sharing of information should take place if it could prejudice the case.

As the matter is now before the courts, further details are expected to emerge during legal proceedings. The case will be handled in accordance with standard criminal procedure.

The CPS has not provided additional information beyond the charges at this stage
