Solicitor barred from law firm ownership under SRA conditions

Regulator said restrictions preventing solicitor from managing or owning authorised firms were necessary in the public interest

The Solicitors Regulation Authority has imposed practising conditions on solicitor Jared Donald Bailey, restricting him from acting as a manager or owner of an authorised legal practice.

The decision was made on 16 April 2026 and published on 18 May 2026 as part of a control of practice outcome relating to Bailey’s practising certificate for the 2025/2026 period.

Under the terms of the SRA decision, Bailey is prohibited from being a “manager or owner of an authorised body”. The restriction applies as defined in the SRA Glossary and forms part of regulatory controls placed on his practising status.

The regulator said the conditions were imposed in the public interest and were considered reasonable and proportionate in line with regulation 7 of the SRA Authorisation of Individuals Regulations. It also referenced the wider regulatory objectives and principles set out under section 28 of the Legal Services Act 2007.

At the time of the conduct referenced in the decision, Bailey was associated with J B Law, based at Wesley Chapel, 22 Sunderland Street, Macclesfield. At the date of publication, he was linked with Prot Edwards Hoyle Limited, located in Bollington, Macclesfield.

No further details were provided by the regulator regarding the underlying circumstances that led to the imposition of the control of practice conditions.
