City solicitor bodies announce three-year strategic partnership with LawCare

City solicitor bodies and LawCare collaborate on three-year programme to strengthen wellbeing support for legal professionals across the sector

The City of London Law Society has joined forces with the City of London Solicitors’ Company and LawCare to support the wellbeing of legal professionals through a new three-year partnership.

Under the initiative, the CLLS will contribute £10,000 annually from 2026 to 2028, while the CLSC will provide £5,000 a year over the same period, creating a combined funding package aimed at strengthening mental health support across the sector.

The partnership is aligned with LawCare’s “25 Club”, an initiative designed to secure sustained funding for frontline services supporting lawyers experiencing mental health challenges.

The move reflects growing concern about wellbeing in the profession. LawCare’s Life in the Law 2025 research shows that nearly 60% of legal professionals report poor mental wellbeing, almost 79% regularly work beyond contracted hours, and more than half could see themselves leaving their workplace within five years. These findings point to persistent structural pressures within the profession, LawCare said.

The organisations said the collaboration is intended not only to provide financial support but also to embed LawCare more closely within the City legal community. This will include joint events, engagement with senior forums and the development of shared insights into the pressures facing legal professionals.

Patrick McCann, Chief Executive of the City of London Law Society, said the partnership was intended to engage with the realities of working in law in a sustained and practical way, adding that LawCare provides both direct support to individuals and insight into the pressures facing the profession. He said the multi-year commitment was designed to support that work in a consistent and evidence-based way, and encouraged other organisations to contribute.

Peter King, Chair of the Charity Committee of the City of London Solicitors’ Company, said the organisation was aware of the pressures faced by solicitors across firms and in-house roles in the City, and that supporting LawCare aligned with its aim of funding charities relevant to the legal sector. He added that the partnership would benefit both its members and the wider profession.

Elizabeth Rimmer, Chief Executive Officer of LawCare, said: “We’re delighted to welcome CLLS as the first LawCare Leader in our 25 Club, with a £10K annual commitment. It’s a great example of leadership and, alongside the support from the City of London Solicitors’ Company, shows a real drive to improve mental health across the legal sector. Through this partnership, we can increase our impact, better support people facing the challenges of day-to-day legal practice, and help build a healthier, more sustainable sector. We’d love to see more of the legal community get involved.”
