SRA warns of bogus trademark emails misusing Alpiner Law and solicitors’ IDs

The SRA warns of scam emails and websites misusing Alpiner Law and solicitors’ SRA details

The Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) has issued a warning after identifying scam emails and websites misusing the name of Alpiner Law Ltd and the names and SRA identification numbers of several solicitors in connection with purported trademark applications.

In an alert published on 5 February 2026, the regulator said it had been informed that multiple emails had been sent to different recipients falsely claiming to be from the “Trademark Division at Alpiner Law Ltd”. The emails refer to an alleged “preliminary legal assessment” concerning a supposed conflicting trademark application with the UK Intellectual Property Office and cite the Trade Marks Rules 2008. Recipients are invited to respond within 48 hours and are offered assistance to prepare and file a UK trademark application.

The SRA said the emails were sent from addresses using the alpinerlaw domain, including diane@notice.alpinerlaw.co, diane@notice.alpinerlaw.com, alex@notice.alpinerlaw.com, amy@notice.alpinerlaw.com and amy@notice.alpinerlaw.co. The correspondence misuses the name and SRA ID numbers of genuine solicitors, describing them as “Registered IP Solicitors”.

Email signatures also include an address at 21 Uldale Drive, Stockton-on-Tees, TS16 9DW, a telephone number beginning +44 191, and a website address linked to alpinerlaw.com. The SRA confirmed that any business or transaction conducted through these email addresses, websites or telephone numbers is not undertaken by a firm or individual authorised or regulated by the regulator.

The regulator also identified websites operating at alpinerlaw.com and alpinerlaw.co is misusing the name of a genuine law firm. The SRA said these websites appear to have been taken down by the hosting provider or suspended.

The SRA confirmed that it does authorise and regulate a genuine firm of solicitors called Alpiner Law Ltd, which is based at Ealing Cross, 95 Uxbridge Road, London, W5 5BW. The regulator also authorises and regulates Diane Thompson and Alex Lee, whose names and SRA ID numbers were misused in the correspondence. In addition, the SRA regulates Amy Taylor, whose details were also referenced. The regulator said it is believed that none of the genuine solicitors are connected to the scam.

The genuine firm and the genuine solicitors have confirmed to the SRA that they have no connection to the emails, websites or contact details referred to in the alert.

The SRA advised members of the public to exercise caution where a firm’s or an individual’s identity may have been copied or cloned. Anyone receiving correspondence of the type described is urged to carry out their own due diligence, including checking whether a firm or individual is authorised by the SRA and verifying practising details through reliable and established contact methods. In some cases, further checks, such as reviewing public records, may also be required.
