The SRA warns the public about a fake website and emails claiming to be a law firm

The Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) has issued a warning to the public after identifying a bogus website and correspondence falsely claiming to be from a law firm called Hackney, Goode & Associates.

In an alert published on 5 February 2026, the regulator said it had been advised that a website operating at www.hackneygoode.co.uk is falsely presenting itself as a law firm offering legal services. The SRA confirmed that neither the firm nor any individuals named on the website are authorised or regulated by the SRA.

According to the regulator, the website claims that Hackney, Goode & Associates specialises in a range of services, including personal injury claims, settlements, civil litigation, family law, employment law and property law. The website lists an office address at 28 Lawrence Road, London, N15 4EG, along with email contact details using the domain hackneygoode.com and a telephone number beginning +44 114.

The SRA said it has also seen correspondence sent to a member of the public from an individual calling herself Catherine Goode, who is described in the correspondence as the firm’s “Managing Partner”. The correspondence purports to confirm eligibility for entry into a settlement fund said to be administered by the Burnley Magistrates Court Resolution Claims Department and offers assistance to secure a settlement.

The regulator said the correspondence features a bogus logo and provides alternative contact details, including a telephone number beginning +44 207 and an email address using the hackneygoode.com domain.

The SRA confirmed that it does not authorise or regulate a firm of solicitors called Hackney, Goode & Associates, nor does it authorise or regulate any solicitor or individual by the name of Catherine Goode. It said that any business or transaction carried out through the website, contact details, firm name or individual referenced in the warning is not undertaken by a firm or person authorised or regulated by the SRA.

The regulator also confirmed that there is no genuine firm of solicitors or authorised individual with those names recorded on its systems.

The SRA advised members of the public to exercise caution where a firm’s or an individual’s identity may have been copied or fabricated. It said that anyone who receives correspondence claiming to be from the firm or individual described should carry out their own due diligence to verify its authenticity.

The regulator said this may include checking whether a firm or individual is authorised and regulated by the SRA, verifying practising details, and using reliable and established contact methods. In some cases, additional checks such as reviewing public records, telephone directories or company information may also be necessary.

The SRA said it continues to publish warnings to help protect the public from misleading or fraudulent claims involving legal services.
