Regulator intervenes into TFC Legal as the firm is forced to close

The SRA has intervened in TFC Legal Limited to safeguard client interests

The Solicitors Regulation Authority has intervened into the practice of TFC Legal Limited, resulting in the closure of the City law firm.

The intervention took effect on 17 December 2025 and was published by the regulator on 19 December. The SRA said the action was necessary to protect the interests of the firm’s clients, former clients and potential clients.

TFC Legal Limited was a recognised body regulated by the SRA and operated from offices at 80 Coleman Street in London. No additional firm details were provided in the regulator’s published notice.

According to the SRA, the decision to intervene was taken under paragraph 32 of Schedule 2 to the Administration of Justice Act 1985, as amended. The regulator relied specifically on paragraph 32 subsection one letter e, which permits intervention where it is necessary to protect client interests.

The SRA did not set out further details about the circumstances that led to the intervention, stating only that the statutory threshold for client protection had been met.

As part of the intervention process, an external firm has been appointed to take control of TFC Legal’s affairs. Chris Evans of Lester Aldridge LLP has been named as the intervening agent.

The intervening agent will be responsible for securing client files, safeguarding any client money held by the firm and managing the orderly handling of outstanding matters in line with regulatory requirements.

An intervention by the SRA brings a firm’s practice to an immediate end. Clients affected by the closure are typically contacted by the intervening agent and provided with information about how to retrieve their papers and make arrangements to continue their legal matters with a new adviser.

The SRA has not indicated whether any further regulatory or disciplinary action is being considered in relation to individuals connected with TFC Legal Limited.

The regulator regularly stresses that interventions are taken only where necessary and are designed to minimise harm to clients while maintaining confidence in the legal profession.
